Jamerica - Guitar Music from the New World

Jamerica - Guitar Music from the New World
This disc unites guitar quartet music from a wide range of styles and cultural traditions. Stephen Funk Pearson's Elassomorph – combining the Greek words for 'elastic' and 'form', alluding to the American lasso – playfully blends classical fugue and country music. Of Mummychogs (a native American word for 'travelling in a group') invites improvisation, with special bridge techniques creating remarkable sonics. Astor Piazzolla's Primavera Porteña and Otoño Porteño, arranged by Jukka Särkka, showcase the Argentinian master's unique fusion of tango and classical idioms. Loris Chobanian's Sonics combines percussive effects, tremolos and arpeggios. Celso Machado's Four Brazilian Dances brings the rhythms of choro, samba and frevo to the group. The programme concludes with music by Wayne Siegel, an American composer living in Aarhus, Denmark. All performed by the JAM Guitar Quartet.
