Recorded in the Grieg Hall in Bergen between 2003 and 2006, this celebrated series gathers Edvard Grieg's complete orchestral music in performances by the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under Ole Kristian Ruud – musicians who have lived with these scores since their creation. The programme spans the beloved Piano Concerto, the complete Peer Gynt and the two Peer Gynt Suites, the Holberg Suite and the Lyric Suite, alongside Bergljot, Den Bergtekne and the orchestral songs. On release the cycle was showered with international praise for the freshness and idiomatic naturalness of the playing, and for BIS's demonstration-quality sound. Honoured with the Grieg Award in 2007 – the centenary of the composer's death – and a special commendation from the UK Grieg Society, it is widely regarded as a reference point in the Grieg discography, and appears here in a stereo-only edition at a very attractive price.
