German orchestra, founded in 1946. The orchestra has always proved that success is to be achieved by aiming for the sky. Has in no way limited itself to the role of a specialist ensemble for new music, having also built up a remarkable Haydn and Mozart tradition, for example, and given attention to Schreker and Mahler long before the revival of interest in these composers began.
