Composed 1930, revised 1948. The Symphony of Psalms is constructed according to strict logic and without any form of unnecessary ballast. It can be enjoyed to the full even without particular knowledge of its text, and in the knowledge that Stravinsky wished to appear an 'absolute' musician we may assume reasonably that he was of the same opinion.
