ComposerCimarosa, Domenico

This is probably the most popular oboe concert from Cimarosa. The movements, originally written for clavicembalo, were arranged in 1942 for oboe and strings, specifically for Lady Barbirolli, by the Australian composer Arthur Benjamin. This piece became a world hit overnight. The melancholy Introduzione, the lively Allegro, the beguiling Siciliano and the dance-like Finale all combine to make this piece the true jewel of the oboe repertoire. 'The string orchestra is extremely accomplished - the sound is outstandingly pleasant and well-balanced' (BBC Music Magazine).
