I. Tempo incostante

Holmboe: Symphonic Metamorphosis No.4, 'Tempo variabile'. Written for the Bergen Festival in Norway. The work falls into four main sections, each separated from the next by a low note repeated five times, played by cellos, basses, timpani and bass drum.'The metamorphosis aimes at a particular goal. It must reach completion in one way or another. Either death or eternal life, if I may put it like that' (Holmboe).
