Mario Venzago



Swiss conductor Mario Venzago (b. 1948).
Principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra from 2004 until 2007. He was born in Zurich, Switzerland, where he studied the piano, and he later went to Vienna for lessons with Hans Swarowsky, one of Europe’s greatest conducting teachers. Venzago has been principal conductor of the Basel Symphony Orchestra and of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and artistic director of the Graz Opera and the Heidelberg Opera. Between 2001 amd 2009 principal conductor of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
